A prayer about my Motives

When I want to have pure motives as I pursue God

Heavenly Father,

I know that my motives are of primary importance to you. The condition of my heart has a huge impact on the condition of my relationship with you. May I never come to you out of obligation or because I’m trying to get something I want. Instead, teach me always to come to you out of a humble desire to know you. I want to be driven by the desire to love you and please you, not by any selfish ambition. Help me to recognize that when my motives are wrong, my actions will be futile. When my motives are right, my actions will be meaningful and worthwhile. O Lord, when I pursue you with self-serving motives, I rob myself of the joy you intend me to have. Purify my heart so that I may seek you wholly and rightly.

I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve. Jeremiah 17:10
