A prayer about Listening

When I want to become a good listener

Heavenly Father,

I want to be a better listener—both to you and to those around me. Too often I try to do things my own way. I don’t take advantage of godly counsel or ask questions that would help me gain understanding, and then I miss out on the wisdom you have for me. Help me, Lord, to be open to advice and even godly correction when I make mistakes. When I am willing to hear and learn, I mature spiritually and gain the knowledge to make decisions that please you. I know that being a good listener also means talking less and choosing my words carefully when I do speak. I don’t want to hurt others with my thoughtless words. Please work in my heart and help me to develop self-control. As I listen with greater care, may those around me be encouraged to share their thoughts with me. I pray for the humility and maturity to respond with love and wisdom.
