A Prayer About Judging Others

A prayer about Judging Others

When I need to stop being critical

Lord God,

When I see a wrong attitude or behavior in people who are close to me, I can choose how I will react. All too often, I respond with judgment. I criticize or lecture without any intent to see them succeed or improve. In the process I hurt their feelings and may even drive them further away. But that’s not your way. You call me to look at my own behavior before I offer an opinion about someone else’s. That’s the first step in learning to respond with an attitude of humility and love. Only with that mind-set will I be able to offer constructive criticism, in which my goal is to build relationships and help others become who you created them to be. Guard my thoughts and lips, keeping me from harsh judgment. Remind me always to let love be my guide.

Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? Matthew 7:1-3
