A Prayer About Invitation

A prayer about Invitation

When I sense Jesus calling me to follow him

Lord Jesus,

When you invited Peter and Andrew to follow you, they responded. They left their nets—their very livelihood, since they were fishermen—and followed you. Their lives were never the same! They observed miracles; witnessed your resurrection; and, with the help of your transforming Holy Spirit, became pillars of the early church. You invite me to follow you too, and that invitation requires a decision: will I come into the adventure that awaits, or will I remain safe and comfortable where I am? My flesh wants to stay where things are predictable, but my heart hears your call. May I resist the pull of the familiar, leave the things I cling to for security, and follow you without turning back. I don’t know what adventures await, but I trust you. I know I’ll never regret it because the treasure I gain from following you will last forever.

Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed him. Matthew 4:19-20
