A prayer about Hospitality

When I wonder what I can share with others

Heavenly Father,

At times I am intimidated by the idea of hospitality. I would like to open my home to people, but I hold back because I don’t have the groceries on hand to make a large meal or because my house isn’t as clean as it should be. I get worried about what others will think, even though I know that’s the wrong mind-set. Remind me, Lord, that the most important part of hospitality is sharing your love with others. I want to be generous with what I have and enjoy the people I’m with. Teach me to focus on making others feel welcome through my presence rather than through my presentation. May I warmly convey your love through my words and actions.

A woman named Martha welcomed [Jesus and the disciples] into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42
