A Prayer About Habits

A prayer about Habits

When I want to make a habit of reading God’s Word

Heavenly Father,

Because of Jesus’ teaching, I know that your Word is spiritual food that I need for spiritual life. Your Word provides nourishment for my soul, and I need that nourishment daily. So why do I only read it when I get around to it? I confess my faithlessness in this area. I know that when I don’t read the Bible regularly, I drift away from you and lack the right perspective on sin, holiness, and your love. I don’t want that, Lord, because when I’m drifting away and when I don’t have the right attitude toward sin, I have no chance to experience the mercy and blessings that come from my relationship with you. Draw me close, Lord. Stir up in me the hunger to study your Word and the self-discipline to do it faithfully, knowing that my spiritual well-being depends on it.

The devil came and said to [Jesus], “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:3-4
