A prayer about Generosity

When I want to become more generous

Lord,

I want to be generous with my money, and I know that begins not with a dollar amount but with my attitude. How can I be sure that my heart is in the right place? Teach me to observe where my money goes because that will reveal what I care about most. Father, you know that my priorities aren’t always right when it comes to money. I’m too concerned with how much I have to spend now and how much I am saving for the future. But those things aren’t as important as what I am willing to relinquish. Please develop in me a generous heart that’s willing to give. Show me that when I give something that involves sacrifice, my heart will begin changing from stinginess to selflessness. O Lord, you own it all! Everything I have is a gift from you, and only what I invest in your Kingdom will last forever. May that motivate me to share my material possessions freely with your church and with those in need.

Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Matthew 6:20-21
