A Prayer About Fearing God
A prayer about Fearing God
When I ponder what it means to fear God
Almighty God,
Jesus called you Abba, or Father, and his sacrifice has given me the right to approach you boldly as my heavenly Father. But you are still the sovereign God of the universe, and so I should also approach you with a huge sense of reverence and awe. You, O Lord, are very great; no one can fathom your greatness! Teach me to have a healthy respect for your power, holiness, and authority, which I think is what the Bible means when it talks about fearing you. Show me that having the right attitude toward you—properly fearing you—is the key to experiencing all your blessings. I know that when I approach you with respect and awe, I will find that you are tender, loving, and compassionate.
What does the LORD your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the LORD your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul. And you must always obey the LORD’s commands and decrees . . . for your own good. Deuteronomy 10:12-13
