A Prayer About Doubt
A prayer about Doubt
When I wonder whether God can use me
Almighty God,
When you came to Moses and called him to lead your people out of Egypt, he was sure he could not do what you were asking of him. The task was too big, and he was scared, unprepared, and full of doubt. But in some ways this was his greatest asset! Your Word tells me that you work through humble hearts that depend on you. When I know I can’t do the job through my own power or skill, I have two choices: walk away or let you work through me. O Lord, sometimes the task ahead of me seems so big, and I doubt my ability to persevere. But when I know you want me to keep on going, I must trust you to be faithful to fulfill your purposes.
Moses pleaded with the LORD, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” Then the LORD asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.” Exodus 4:10-12
