A prayer about Happiness

When I wonder how I can find happiness

Loving God,

It’s part of human nature to desire happiness, but people pursue it in very different ways. I see people around me who bring unhappiness on themselves by choosing destructive lifestyles, and I confess that sometimes I do that myself. If I crave acceptance, I may be tempted to choose sexual involvement outside of marriage, which will lead to pain and emotional scars. If I believe I can find happiness through wealth, I might be tempted to use dishonest means to acquire riches. Guard me from settling for these human counterfeits! Impress on my heart that true, lasting happiness comes by following the principles you designed for my long-term well-being. You graciously provide positive, beautiful life principles throughout your Word. By doing what is right, I’ll be able to enjoy life without fear of how my life might turn out. May I always obey your Word, and in doing that, may I find the true happiness that comes from you.

Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD. Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts. They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in his paths. Psalm 119:1-3
