A prayer about Desires

When I need to evaluate my desires

Lord,

There are many things that I want, and those desires can be so strong! Sometimes, such as when I covet something that belongs to someone else, it’s easy to see that my desires are wrong. At other times, such as when I want to know you more, it’s easy to see that they are right. But for those times in the middle, when I’m not sure whether a desire is right or wrong, help me to consider the long-term consequences. Is what I want good, consistent with your Word, and helpful or at least harmless to others? If so, you give me the freedom to pursue it, with discernment. Above all, Lord, I long for the things you desire for me. Mold me and give me a hunger for good and honorable things. Teach me to fix my mind on what pleases you, knowing that my desires will follow.

Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8
