A Prayer About Courage
A prayer about Courage
When I am afraid
Father,
I am often afraid, and I wish you would remove the things that frighten me. But I know that’s not how you work. The early church faced terrible persecution, yet they didn’t pray for the threats to end but for the courage to face them. May I follow their example. Please give me the boldness to turn the things that threaten me into opportunities for spiritual growth and for declaring my faith. When I’m frightened by the enormity of my problems, may I see them as opportunities to recognize that you are by my side. After all, if you took away everything that frightens me, I would have no need for courage. Help me see beyond the immediate crisis and put my future in your hands. This is the safest place to be.
All the believers lifted their voices together in prayer. . . . “O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:24, 29-31
