A Prayer About Competition
A prayer about Competition
When competing with others is causing harm
Heavenly Father,
You have given me a competitive nature. There are times when I want to be the best, to win, to excel. Pursuing excellence is fine, but I run into trouble when my desire to be first means that I view other people solely as my competitors. Never let me forget that they are created in your image, deserving of your love too. May I focus not on being better than others but simply on doing my best. Only then will my efforts honor you. And guard me from allowing my competitive drive to cause me to concentrate too much on my own goals rather than on your plans for me—help me to focus on what you want me to achieve, Lord. Without your guidance, my achievements won’t have lasting value. Please channel my competitive nature into the pursuit of accomplishments and actions that will last for eternity.
Whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace. 1 Corinthians 15:10
