A prayer about Community

When I want to be a light to my community

Lord,

I want to be an example of your love to the people around me. I don’t pretend that there’s anything special about me, but your influence on my life can make me attractive to others. Help me to reflect your loving character in such a way that others will be drawn to me, and through me to you. Show me how to do that, whether it’s by being a friendly neighbor, serving the needy in my community, making peace with difficult people, or treating others with fairness and respect. Through your power, make me a beacon of light that brightens the whole community with your transforming ways. I know I’ll make mistakes, but I want to live my life in such a way that my neighbors will see that you are in me.

You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16
