A Prayer About Choices

A prayer about Choices

When I need to make better choices

Lord Jesus,

When I look back on my life—or even just on the past few weeks—I can see that I haven’t always made the best choices. At times I’ve chosen to remain in sin, I’ve purposely walked away from you, and I’ve pursued paths that were selfish or unwise. But I know choices reflect the kind of woman I am, so I want to choose better. I’m encouraged by the example of Zacchaeus, who certainly made a lot of bad choices by stealing money in his career as a tax collector. But you called him, spent time with him, forgave him—and he was changed. You transformed both his behavior and his attitudes. O Lord, do the same for me, I pray! May I spend more time with you and allow your goodness to permeate my heart. Only then will I begin making choices that please you and avoiding choices that don’t. I praise you for your transforming power in my life.

When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.” Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. . . . Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” Luke 19:5-6, 8
