A Prayer About Disappointment

A prayer about Disappointment

When I’m struggling to handle disappointment

Heavenly Father,

I face disappointment almost every day. It can be because I didn’t accomplish everything I hoped to, because someone hurt me, because I let another person down, or because things just didn’t go my way. Often I experience that awful feeling of not being good enough, and then I make things worse by blaming others or asking “what if” questions, which lead to regret. I hate this cycle, Lord. It leads only to discouragement, depression, anger, shame, or bitterness. I don’t want disappointment to dominate my thoughts. I need you to transform my attitude and renew my perspective. Show me how to view disappointment as an opportunity to learn and grow. Help me to focus on what I have, not on what I’ve missed. You have promised me a wonderful future, and I know you want me to dwell on what is still ahead, not on what could have been. The next time I feel disappointed, may I remember all you have blessed me with, determine to grow through the experience, and be happy that I have your approval. You’re the only one who really matters.

Always continue to fear the LORD. You will be rewarded for this; your hope will not be disappointed. Proverbs 23:17-18
