A prayer about Unity

When I’m struggling with lack of Christian unity

Heavenly Father,

Often I’m convinced that my opinion is the best. So if someone else’s opinion is different, I’m sure it must not be right or well thought through. Forgive my arrogance, Lord. I know my mind-set keeps me from listening to new ideas that might actually change my opinion for the better. And when your children hold tight to their own opinions, your church suffers. Give me the humility to realize that I don’t have to be right, the wisdom to recognize that others’ opinions are just as valid as mine, and the grace to open my ears and listen. Just as different colors create a richer painting, so in your hands, differences among people can create a richer whole. Show me how to celebrate the differences I see in my family and in other believers. As I appreciate those differences, teach me how to fit them together to accomplish a oneness that glorifies you. Then I will experience the true unity you designed humans to share and enjoy.

You are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26-28
