A Prayer About Anger
A prayer about Anger
When I’m struggling with my anger
Holy God,
Why do I get so angry? Sometimes it’s a reaction to my pride being hurt. When I’m confronted, rejected, ignored, or don’t get my way, I use anger as a defense mechanism to protect my ego. I get upset when someone confronts me about my sinful actions because I don’t want to admit I’ve done something wrong—and I don’t want anyone else to know it either. O Lord, when anger begins to well up inside me, teach me to stop before it gets out of control. When my reaction is really about my own pride, may I recognize that and confess it. Then I know my anger will melt away, leaving room for a more thoughtful, humble response. Guard my tongue so that my angry words will not hurt others. May I learn to follow your example of being slow to become angry.
The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. Psalm 103:8-9
