A Prayer About Advice

A prayer about Advice

When I question whether I need advice from others

Dear Lord,

I know I’m not wise enough to anticipate all the possibilities of a situation or grasp all the issues related to a problem. Yet sometimes I still question whether I need to listen to others. Father, just as you did for the people in Moses’ day, you can use the advice of a trained counselor or a trusted friend as a turning point in my life. Right counsel that’s consistent with your Word can make the difference between success and failure, joy and sorrow, prosperity and poverty, victory and defeat. So please prepare me for the wisdom I need to hear, from the person you have prepared to give it. May I be ready to receive it, and let it penetrate my heart.

[Moses’ father-in-law said to Moses,] “This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself. Now listen to me, and let me give you a word of advice, and may God be with you. . . . Select from all the people some capable, honest men who fear God and hate bribes. . . . They will help you carry the load, making the task easier for you. If you follow this advice, and if God commands you to do so, then you will be able to endure the pressures, and all these people will go home in peace.” Exodus 18:18-19, 21-23
