A prayer for Personal Peace - Taking heart

PRECIOUS SAVIOR,

When I read your message to the disciples, I am struck by the fact that you knew you would soon be arrested, convicted, and crucified. To prepare your friends for what would come, you said they would desert you, scatter, and experience “many trials and sorrows.” Yet they should “take heart” and “have peace.” I know that what you predicted came true. I also know that this world continues to produce a steady stream of struggles. Every day (including this one, I am sure) brings troubles, conflicts, problems, and persecutions. I admit that I get weary of the struggle and wish you would return and make things right. But I know you want me to work through these feelings and serve you wholeheartedly. So today I claim the truth that you have “overcome the world,” and I will take heart and trust in you.

[Jesus said,] “The time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when you will be scattered, each one going his own way, leaving me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me. I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:32-33
