A Prayer About Priorities

A prayer about Priorities - Putting first things first

DEAR LORD,

As I face this day, my schedule looks open, relaxed, but I know that it will fill with a wide variety of concerns, calls, and choices. Because I like to get things done, I’ll move from task to task so I can mark them off my to-do list: paying bills, writing notes, returning calls, working around the house, and more. Often something claiming to need my immediate attention will appear, so I’ll drop everything and attend to it. And then intrude these time-stealers: Internet, social media, television, texting . . . Finally, at the end of the day I look back and wonder what I have actually accomplished in all the activity. I need your help, Lord—first to make sure my priorities are in line with yours, and then to actually tackle what is important and not just what seems to be urgent. As you have commanded, I need to look after your Kingdom “above all else.” This involves spending time with you, attending to my family, sharing the gospel, serving. Help me put first things first.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33
