ALMIGHTY GOD,

Christmas and Easter are eloquent annual reminders of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Communion and baptism also picture his work. In the Bible, I read that you established many monuments and festivals to remind your people through many generations of your powerful work among them. Each time they celebrated at a feast or stood at an ancient marker, they were to remember what had happened and praise you. We don’t build many monuments or have festivals like those anymore, but I have a few. One is the place where I gave my heart to you. Others include books that were helpful in my spiritual growth and my Bibles. I keep a journal where I record your work and my feelings. And when I visit a certain church, conference grounds, or camp, I am transported to the times I met you there. What a faithful God you are! You have delivered and blessed me through the years, and I am so thankful.

This annual festival will be a visible sign to you. . . . Let it remind you always to recite this teaching of the LORD: “With a strong hand, the LORD rescued you from Egypt.” So observe the decree of this festival at the appointed time each year. Exodus 13:9-10
