A Prayer About Stuff

A prayer about Stuff - Simplifying life

DEAR JESUS,

I have so much stuff and keep accumulating more. I don’t hoard, but my closets, shelves, drawers, and storage areas contain so many things: clothes, appliances, gadgets, tools, mementos, pictures, furniture—some of which I’ll probably never use again. I look around and wonder why I bought them in the first place. I hear stories about people’s homes or garages stacked floor to ceiling with junk and can’t imagine anyone doing that. But I’m on my way—and all this when so many in the world have nothing. Instead of spending money on those impulse items, I could have invested it in the Kingdom. One truth stands out: I need to simplify my life. I don’t want to be like the rich fool who stored up everything on earth, thinking that would bring him happiness and security. I know my life, my future, is with you. Help me make the hard choices about what to get rid of and give me the discipline to not purchase what I don’t need.

A person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God. Luke 12:21
