A Prayer About Spiritual Heritage

A prayer about Spiritual Heritage - Valuing the saints of old

FATHER IN HEAVEN,

Hebrews 11 reminds me that I stand in a long line of people stretching through the centuries who have served you faithfully. These godly men and women believed you and remained true, despite tremendous hardships and persecutions. The list of Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, Samuel, and David humbles me because these saints did not have the Bible, nor did they live to see Jesus. They certainly were not perfect, but they believed you and stood strong. Now here I live, a recipient of the fruits of their faithfulness. Unlike them, I know the full story of the Incarnation and have your written Word, Old and New Testaments. And I have shelves filled with resources to help me understand the Bible and know you better. Yet my faith seems so weak, especially compared to theirs. Thank you, my Father, for these ancient brothers and sisters in the faith. I pray that I, too, will be found faithful, today and every day.

All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. Hebrews 11:13
