A Prayer About Sovereignty
A prayer about Sovereignty - Celebrating God’s control
SOVEREIGN LORD,
I confess that I suffer from the illusion of control. Sometimes I act as though I know what will occur and have the power to make things happen. But I don’t. In fact, often events have been just the opposite of what I had predicted. And although you want me to make plans for the future, I must always acknowledge that only you know how life will turn out—your “purpose will prevail.” That is such a relief. Knowing that you are the sovereign ruler of all gives me peace when the world seems to be spinning toward destruction. As I see dire events unfold, I need to keep reminding myself, “God is in control.” You have given me your sure promises, and I hold firmly to those. In the darkest of times, I know the light will come. When I am falling, I know you will catch me. And when I come to the end of life, I know you will lead me safely home.
You can make many plans, but the LORD’s purpose will prevail. Proverbs 19:21
I am the LORD, and there is no other. I create the light and make the darkness. I send good times and bad times. I, the LORD, am the one who does these things. Isaiah 45:6-7
