A Prayer About Comforting Others

A prayer about Comforting Others - Showing concern

SOURCE OF ALL COMFORT,

Recently when I was at a hospital, I was struck by the number of hurting individuals I saw—patients and visitors, many with faces etched with worry or pain. Hospitals are places of healing and joy of birth and good test results, but they are also places of bad news, suffering, trauma, and death. I thought about how many people can’t get good medical care and those who suffer alone. I have never enjoyed visiting the sick because I’m not sure what to say, and probably because their situation reminds me of my own mortal condition. Yet at home or in a hospital, those hurting people want to know that someone cares about them and is willing to interrupt life and take time for them, listening and praying. I can and should be that kind of person. When I have suffered illness or loss, I have enjoyed calls, notes, cards, and visits. Certainly I can do that for others. Lord, make me a channel of your comfort, sharing your love.

God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
