A Prayer About Compassion Fatigue

A prayer about Compassion Fatigue - Combating the numbing effect

HOLY SPIRIT,

Refresh and renew me today. I feel as though I am becoming numb to human suffering because of all the problems and pain in the world. I used to be moved by a TV commercial about orphans; now I hardly give a glance. I hear about crises in missions, churches, families, and individuals through a continual barrage of bulletins, prayer chain alerts, e-mails, and social media. I pray for these people and give financial support when I can, but the needs and appeals are so great. I don’t like the fact that I am growing calloused and almost apathetic. Each situation is real and represents people you love. Let me not treat them as faceless stories or statistics. Keep me sensitive and caring, someone who loves people everywhere deeply, because you love them and because you have showered your love on me. If someone hadn’t prayed for and reached out to me in my time of need, I probably still would be lost. But they did, and I met you.

Let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith. Galatians 6:9-10
