A Prayer About Sacrifice

A prayer about Sacrifice - Showing love for Jesus

DEAR JESUS,

Recently I heard someone ask, “What have you done lately just because you love Jesus?”—and I was immediately convicted. I do love you, because you love me and gave your life for me. Yet I wonder if I have ever acted on those feelings—a pure act of devotion. I’m afraid that much of my Christian life involves me doing what I think I should because of what the Bible says: tithing, serving, praying, studying, sharing my faith. I know you want those actions, but I should do them out of love, not obligation. So I pray, dear Savior, draw me close. Today, help me to see you more clearly and love you more dearly and act out of that love unselfishly, sacrificially, purely as a result of my love for you. Perhaps, like the woman with her perfume, it will involve worship. Or maybe it will mean taking time to comfort a friend or serve a stranger. I love you, Jesus.

While [Jesus] was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it over his head. The disciples were indignant when they saw this. . . . But Jesus, aware of this, replied, “Why criticize this woman for doing such a good thing to me?” Matthew 26:7-8, 10
