ALMIGHTY GOD,

Moses had been such a great leader, and you had demonstrated your power and protection in your people’s escape and journey. You parted the Red Sea, led them day and night, empowered them in battles, and provided food. Yet when Moses was with you on the mountain, they turned quickly to a god of their own making. Even more astounding is the fact that their spiritual leader, Aaron, went along with it all. I find this appalling and almost inconceivable. But then I think how easily professing Christians turn to other gods. Our faith seems to be located in our environment (leaders, family, youth group), so when we leave that environment, often we leave the faith. We’ve seen you work, have heard the stories of miracles and courageous believers, and have gone through the religious motions. But we haven’t made the faith our own. Help us to remain true. And help me to encourage someone who may be wandering and wavering, pulling that person back to you.

The LORD told Moses, “Quick! Go down the mountain! Your people whom you brought from the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves. How quickly they have turned away from the way I commanded them to live! They have melted down gold and made a calf, and they have bowed down and sacrificed to it.” Exodus 32:7-8
