A Prayer About Generosity

A prayer about Generosity - Doing good

LORD ABOVE,

I have never considered myself to be wealthy, especially when comparing my income and possessions to the many people who have so much more. But when I learn of desperate poverty, both here and in the third world, I know I am rich. The fact that I have food, shelter, indoor plumbing, and heat puts me beyond so many in this world. And I have the financial freedom to purchase what I want. All I have comes from you; I am just a steward. So why do I hold it so tightly and look to money for my security? Through Paul you tell me to be “generous” and “ready to share,” and I hear you loud and clear. Instead of being stingy (calling it “thrifty”), please give me a spirit of giving and helping. I don’t want to be foolish and give indiscriminately to everyone who asks, so give me discernment. Convict me when a person, cause, or ministry needs help, and push me to give even more than I think I can, joyfully, as an act of worship and service to you.

Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. 1 Timothy 6:18
