A prayer about Peculiar People - Acting as God’s treasure

ALMIGHTY GOD,

This morning I awoke with the wonderful realization that I am not alone; I belong to you. So I praise you for choosing and calling me to be part of your holy nation. Even more amazing, you have adopted me into your family. You are my Father and King. One old translation of this passage and others uses the description “peculiar people.” The underlying meaning is “special” and “specific,” but it has always meant “different” to me. I know that as one of your people, I am to stand out from the crowd, to differ in my values, attitudes, and lifestyle. People should wonder why I am that way and then learn that it is all because of you. Knowing that I am your “special treasure” definitely enhances my self-esteem but should also affect how I live. My actions reflect on my family and on you. So today, Lord, in every decision and move I make, keep this truth at the forefront of my mind: I am peculiar; I am treasured; I am yours.

The LORD has declared today that you are his people, his own special treasure, just as he promised, and that you must obey all his commands. And if you do, he will set you high above all the other nations he has made. Deuteronomy 26:18-19
