A Prayer About Favoritism

A prayer about Favoritism - Avoiding discrimination

HOLY SPIRIT,

Forgive me for pandering to the popular and powerful, those whom I think can help me personally or professionally. I don’t want to act that way, but I do at times in my daily associations and even at church. I should not defer to these influential men and women, nor should I be intimidated by them. And I certainly shouldn’t discriminate against those who seem to have less to offer. Regardless of looks and bank accounts, rich people are still people, sinful human beings who need you and your love. Just like everyone else, they need to hear the truth that they are lost without Christ and must submit to his lordship. And beneath the expensive veneer, they may be hurting and longing to have a friend who will listen and share your Word. We may be from different social strata, but we are alike in many ways. So I pray for me and my attitude, God—help me not to discriminate. I also pray for those who may be counting on their wealth and position instead of you.

How can you claim to have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favor some people over others? . . . Doesn’t this discrimination show that your judgments are guided by evil motives? James 2:1, 4
