A Prayer About Money

A prayer about Money - Fighting materialism

PRECIOUS SAVIOR,

I know money can’t buy happiness and shouldn’t be important to me. But I keep thinking of what I could buy and do if I had more. Everyone I know seems to eat out often, wear the latest fashions, travel to exotic locations, and have the next generation of phone or computer. I can’t afford those things. So when the lottery jackpot keeps rising, I daydream about what I’d do with all that cash. I’ve heard the stories of many who suddenly came into wealth and it ruined their lives, but I think I’d be different. I’m afraid that this is becoming an obsession with me. I know it’s wrong, and I’m fooling myself. So please forgive me, Lord, and help me reorder my values and thoughts. I want to be content with what I have. Help me live right by focusing on you and not the world.

People who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6:9-10
