A Prayer About Communication

A prayer about Communication - Talking and listening

LORD ABOVE,

I need help with my communication skills. I understand that I should listen carefully to people to hear what they are saying, but I find myself often pretending to listen while I’m thinking about how I will respond. Sometimes I’ll even interrupt to get my words in. I don’t appreciate when people treat me that way, but that’s how I act. And then, Lord, at times I think I have expressed myself clearly only to learn that a person heard something entirely different from what I was intending to say. Even though this problem involves more than conversations about spiritual matters, I realize that how I interact with people always reflects on you because they know I am a Christ-follower. So today, I pray, please “guard my lips” and help me to speak words of love and truth, avoiding foolish talk. In every conversation, cause me to remember that the other person is valuable, someone you love, and is worth listening to. Give me empathy and mouth-control, and provide the words to explain my faith.

Take control of what I say, O LORD, and guard my lips. Psalm 141:3

Avoid worthless, foolish talk that only leads to more godless behavior. 2 Timothy 2:16
