A Prayer About Remaining

A prayer about Remaining - Hanging in there

DEAR JESUS,

I don’t understand why I think I can live the Christian life by myself, but that’s the way I often act. A branch severed from the vine will die. On my own, I am useless and can generate nothing. So how can I possibly expect to produce fruit apart from you? Jesus, you are the vine, and I am one of many branches through which you have chosen to work. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this glorious process. I realize that my responsibility is to remain in you, allowing your power to flow in and through me. Sometimes I think this means holding on for dear life, using my strength to stay attached. But the only way to remain or hold on is through faith, trusting that you are holding me. In contrast, many of my well-intentioned religious activities move me away because I am doing them out of duty or trying to please you. Hold me close, dear Savior. Remind me every moment who is the Vine and who is a branch.

Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. John 15:4
