A Prayer About Anger
A prayer about Anger - Giving no foothold
HOLY SPIRIT,
Please forgive me for how I have been acting recently. I used to be a positive person—nothing seemed to bother me—but over the past few days I have allowed irritations to get to me. In perspective, the precipitating events weren’t significant at all—a slow-moving car, inclement weather, a new regulation, a salesperson’s mistake, the rise in gas prices, a perceived slight. No big deal, right? But then yesterday I had an outburst that took me by surprise. Maybe everything was building, but I exploded, assaulting a person verbally, and I shocked everyone around me. I need your help, dear Lord. I certainly do not want my circumstances or emotions, especially anger, to control me and to give Satan a foothold in my life. I’m afraid that my change in mood and how I’ve acted recently have damaged some of my closest relationships. So I pray for your control, Holy Spirit. I don’t want to be that person. And please give me humility to go to my friends and ask for their forgiveness.
“Don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil. Ephesians 4:26-27
