A Prayer About Timing

A prayer about Timing - Learning to wait

DEAR LORD,

You are perfect, with perfect timing. I know you will answer my prayers on your schedule, not mine. Children want everything “now!” because the very young have no sense of time. To them an hour is impossibly long, and a year seems like forever. So they want their dessert before dinner and Christmas next week. Waiting is difficult. I should know better than to be like that, but often I, too, am impatient and demanding. I pray my requests and expect immediate answers, no waiting. A quick reflective glance over my life reveals when timing made all the difference. If I had lived according to my preferred schedule instead of yours, I would have settled and missed your best. O Lord, I need a good dose of patience and trust: patience to be able to wait for your answers, and trust to believe that what you decide is perfect. You know what is best for me, and that’s what you want for me—but all in due time, your time, the best time. Your timing is everything.

God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11
