A Prayer About Working For Good

When I consider “everything”

MY SOVEREIGN LORD,

You know that I love you. So I am claiming your promise in Romans and trusting you—that what I experienced today will in some way work “for the good.” This verse is often quoted whenever a setback or tragedy occurs, and I’ve heard people try hard to find something good in a terrible situation. But as I reread this passage, the words everything and together jumped out. And I seemed to hear you explaining that I shouldn’t isolate incidents and that you are weaving everything together for my ultimate good. In truth, you are sovereign and can do anything, even take a sinful act and use it in your plan, for your glory. So instead of trying to think positively about a negative situation, I need to simply trust you, remembering that you are perfect, holy, and righteous and that you love me and want only the very best for me. I am confident in my relationship with you: I am chosen, called, and your child, born again by grace through faith. I praise you, Lord.

We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28
