A Prayer About Teamwork
A prayer about Teamwork
When I understand my role in the church
HEAVENLY FATHER,
I know teamwork is vital in sports, music, and other areas of life. Each member has a specific task to fulfill for the team, squad, choir, orchestra, partnership, task force, or committee for it to be successful. So why do I forget that important truth in the church? At times I act alone, without working with anyone else. Sometimes I am almost envious of others—their gifts and appointed roles. But I remember that the earthly collection of believers not only represents Christ but also, through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, is his body. Paul explains how each member of the body has a special role to play and that all the parts must work together. I may have an upfront, public display of my gifts or another leadership role. But I may be called to a less obvious responsibility. Whatever the case, I must do my best, working together with other team members, for your glory. An orchestra has a concertmaster but also a “last chair”—both must play well. Wherever I am placed, I want to give my best.
[Christ] makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. Ephesians 4:16
