A Prayer About The Brevity Of Life

When I feel time slipping away

ETERNAL FATHER,

As I get older, the days, weeks, and years seem to fly with increasing speed. Sometimes I have to do the math to remember how old I am. And when I think of events of a decade or two ago, I feel as though they happened just yesterday. I don’t want to yearn for or live in the past or fear the future, but I feel as though my life is slipping away much too quickly. The years seem to be growing increasingly shorter. Thank you, Lord, that you have more planned for me than my few years on earth. I know that life is short no matter how long I live, but eternity with you is forever. Help me, Father, to grow in wisdom so that I make the most of the time you give me, using my God-given talents and abilities for your glory, valuing others, taking advantage of the opportunities you provide, and rejoicing in the gift of each new day.

LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered—how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath. Psalm 39:4-5
