A Prayer About Mercy Toward Others

A prayer about Mercy Toward Others

When I desire increased empathy for others’ needs

ALMIGHTY GOD,

I admit it—I am angry right now for the way I have been treated. I was wronged, grievously, and thoughts of retaliation and revenge fill my mind. I know I’m supposed to leave that to you, let go, forgive, and move on. But this person owes me a huge debt, and I want payment. That’s how I feel. I also find myself becoming calloused to others’ needs, even prayer requests from friends and others on the church prayer chain. What’s wrong with me that I cannot feel with them, pray for them, and help them? I am so disappointed in myself, especially knowing that I am to be like you and that you have shown great mercy to me for so long and in so many ways. Please give me a heart filled with mercy, making me slow to get angry and quick to forgive, just as you have forgiven me. And give me a sensitive and sincere spirit, quick to respond to others in their times of need, just as you continuously show your love for me.

You must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives. Jude 1:22-23
