A Prayer About Delay

A prayer about Delay

When I am tempted to slow down my obedience

HOLY SPIRIT,

I usually live by the motto “Do it now” because I like to prioritize tasks and check them off my list. I’m a doer more than a talker. I also know that things undone tend to pile up until they are buried, and I never get to them. So my desk is clean. For some reason, however, I find myself delaying in my obedience to you. That is, I know what you want me to do, but I don’t “do it now.” Instead, I put it off and leave it for later. Yet at the same time, I seem to be quick to respond the wrong way—quick to speak in anger. I have it backward. Why do I find doing what is wrong so easy and doing what is right so difficult? And then, when I think about what I haven’t gotten around to do, I make excuses, usually about being busy. How ironic! Please forgive me, I pray. And do your work in me, Spirit, giving me the will and strength to obey you immediately, without delay.

I will hurry, without delay, to obey your commands. Psalm 119:60
