A Prayer About Memories
A prayer about Memories
When I remember people and events in my past
HEAVENLY FATHER,
Remembering affects me in several ways. Often when I least expect it, a calendar date or a specific place triggers a painful memory of an event that caused conflict or grief. At other times, I recall happy occasions, especially when reunited with family and friends whom I haven’t seen recently. Usually a high school reunion evokes both feelings. I admit, Lord, that sometimes I wish I could return to a certain era—a time and place where life was uncomplicated and I felt loved. (Of course, I conveniently forget the difficulties that seemed overwhelming back then.) I can do the same with romance, idealizing a past relationship and thinking, What if . . . Thank you, Father, for my history, especially those people and events you used to bring me closer to you. Thank you for the challenges that taught me valuable life lessons. And most of all, thank you for calling me and transforming me by your Spirit. For that memory I am eternally grateful. I value past memories as I live in the present, for you.
I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory. I want you to remember what the holy prophets said long ago and what our Lord and Savior commanded through your apostles. 2 Peter 3:1-2
