A Prayer About Joy

A prayer about Joy

When I want to truly enjoy life

MARVELOUS LORD,

I love to laugh and enjoy a good joke. My favorite shows, movies, and plays are comedies. And like everyone else, I want a happy life. I know firsthand, however, that the days, months, and years are not all filled with laughter and good feelings. Sin, sickness, and disasters run rampant in this fallen world, and all people, me included, are susceptible. Some days are tougher than others, and today was one of those days. Although I enjoy the laughs, I want to go deeper, Lord—I want joy. I want joy in living, in relationships, in my future hopes and dreams, and most of all, in my salvation. Joy comes from the deep assurance that you are sovereign, so despite my present circumstances, I know you are here and in control. Joy comes from remembering that you love me, are not angry with me, and have a glorious future planned for me. Joy comes from the profound knowledge that I am forgiven, saved, and bound for heaven. Joy comes from knowing and serving Jesus. Praise you, Lord!

Praise the LORD! For he has heard my cry for mercy. The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. Psalm 28:6-7
