A Prayer About Influence
A prayer about Influence
When I consider those who look up to me
HEAVENLY FATHER,
I have never considered myself to be a role model for anyone. I see myself as a regular, normal person trying to do my best in this world while honoring you. But after a mom thanked me for being a good example for her child, I began thinking about who might be watching me. When I was younger, I remember looking up to aunts, uncles, Sunday school teachers, coaches, choir directors, school teachers, and older kids. I almost idolized some. So I realize that I do influence people, especially the children I lead, by how I act and talk and by my opinions and ideas. So I pray that I will be a good example, a positive influence, on all who look up to me. But I also should consider who and what is affecting me. Many entities try to influence my financial decisions, voting choices, clothing, and hair styles—just about every aspect of life. More important, the culture tries to influence my values. I want my values aligned with yours, loving you with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength.
[The LORD said,] “If you speak good words rather than worthless ones, you will be my spokesman. You must influence them; do not let them influence you!” Jeremiah 15:19
