A Prayer About Emotions
A prayer about Emotions
When my feelings swing wildly
HOLY SPIRIT,
I remember watching friends get all excited over a small gift or embittered over a perceived slight. I thought how foolish they were to allow circumstances and feelings to make or break their day. But lately I have been doing the same thing. Emotions are tricky because they can be intense and can swing to extremes. I don’t think I’m overly emotional, and I don’t make major decisions based on my feelings. But I have been on an emotional roller coaster ride—up and then suddenly down and with many twists and turns between. Bad news gets me upset; then I’m over the edge in the other direction when something good happens. I seem to be at the mercy of circumstances and my feelings. Holy Spirit, please do your work in me, illuminating your inspired Word, showing me truth, and putting me on an even keel. I don’t want to stuff or deny my emotions, Lord, but I need to get them under control—under your control. Please work in my mind and heart, transforming me into a disciple who is feeling and caring, but also thoughtful and steady.
Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God. Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything. 1 John 3:19-20
