A Prayer About Education

A prayer about Education

When I know I need to learn

FATHER GOD,

Some days I believe that I am fairly intelligent, that I can read with understanding, that I have specialized knowledge in certain areas and insight into others, and that I can figure out how things work and why certain events happen. But then I am confronted with a profound mystery of life or in Holy Scripture, and I realize how little I know; in fact, I’m just a primary pupil in your school. I don’t ever want to stop learning, Lord. I want to be a student of the Word because I want to know more about you, your ways, and your will. Help me to never think that I have arrived spiritually, that I know it all theologically. I don’t want to let myself grow complacent in the Christian life. Instead, I want to continue to ask and study and learn. Open my mind and heart to you. Lead me to teachers and mentors who can take me deeper—in person and through their writing and speaking, past and present. More than facts, I want life-changing truths. More than intelligence, I want wisdom. Teach me, omniscient God.

Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. Psalm 25:5
