A Prayer About Purpose
A prayer about Purpose
When I consider my reason for living
HEAVENLY FATHER,
Sooner or later, everyone asks the big questions in life: Why am I here? What is life all about? What’s the purpose for living, for life itself? I probably began thinking seriously about these issues during adolescence, but the questioning intensified in the years that followed as my awareness and perception grew. Also as I matured in my Christian faith, I learned that my purpose should be to glorify you. I am not simply existing in the time allotted between birth and death—my life has meaning. People try to fill the emptiness in their lives with a wide variety of dead-end purposes and counterfeit gods: pleasure, success, money, power, and more. But they’re headed in the wrong direction. You spared me from that, Lord, and have given me purpose and joy. I do want to “spread [your] fame throughout the earth.” Every day is a meaningful adventure in living for you. Please keep me focused on my purpose, pointing to Christ through my attitude, words, and lifestyle.
I have spared you for a purpose—to show you my power and to spread my fame throughout the earth. Exodus 9:16
