A Prayer About Competition

When I think about winning instead of serving

JESUS,

Your disciples argued about who would be the greatest in your Kingdom. I find that I also think about how I can impress you. I’m a competitive person, so I push myself to be first. That’s dangerous in the Christian life. By worldly standards, you finished last—arrested, tortured, and executed. Yet I am to follow your example. Teach me the path of humility, of choosing last place and becoming a servant to others.
