A Prayer About Cheating

When I am tempted to take moral and ethical shortcuts

GOD,

In ancient Israel, some merchants used dishonest scales to cheat customers. That’s not my style. But I’m often tempted to cut corners at work, with finances, or in relationships. It is usually the easy way, and I can quickly rationalize it. Besides the fact that it’s wrong, I know that cheating in small matters can escalate and become a way of life. I’m not a cheater, Lord. Help me always to be honest.

Honesty guides good people; dishonesty destroys treacherous people. . . . The godly are directed by honesty; the wicked fall beneath their load of sin. Proverbs 11:3, 5
